June 2021 Update

Eviction Moratorium extended to July 31st

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky has signed an extension to the eviction moratorium further preventing the eviction of tenants who are unable to make rental payments. The moratorium that was scheduled to expire on June 30, 2021 is now extended through July 31, 2021 and this is intended to be the final extension of the moratorium.

Extending the eviction moratorium through July gives state and local governments more time to distribute more than $46 billion in emergency rental assistance (ERA) to those most in need.

According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, at least 6 million renter households are still behind on rent: state and local governments must use the next month to quickly and aggressively strengthen their emergency rental assistance programs to avert an historic wave of evictions this summer and fall. Neighbors Helping Neighbors

When families are evicted or have to stay with friends and family until they find housing they can afford, they tend to lose most of their belongings.  They have to leave things behind because they cannot afford a storage unit and still save to get into new housing.  That means that when we get them rehoused, the children do not have a HOME.  We created our Home Goods Closet to help families get back to HOME.

We work with Streets of Paradise to provide furniture for the family.  Then we provide the smaller items like pots and pans, coffee pot, utensils, etc.  We also provide those items that are more costly and are not available with food stamps or at the local food pantry like cleaning supplies and personal hygiene items.  All of this helps the family to get back to a sense of normalcy and helps the children to feel more secure.  These items can either be donated separately to help families for our pantry or as part of the kits we have prepared.

Below, please find links and information regarding Rental Assistance in Sarasota County. Links are provided to connect to the source for more information. While we at Family Promise SSC are providing funding for Rental Assistance to those in need, this Government funding dramatically exceeds anything we could even hope to provide and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to those that apply. The funds below are not FPSSC funds and we are not in any way connected to this process.

Thank you for all you do and bless you all!
